As the summer of 2023 unfolds, it brings with it a wave of electrifying action-packed series that are bound to captivate anime enthusiasts worldwide. From intense battles and heart-stopping adventures to exhilarating plot twists, this season promises an adrenaline-fueled journey like no other.
For all you action-packed Anime lovers out there, our team here at Anime Box Club present to you our carefully curated top 5 list of both new and continuing Action Anime simulcasts.
To start off our list, we have the newly airing simulcast, Reign of the Seven Spellblades! The story is set in Kimberly Magic Academy, a treacherous but rewarding place to learn alchemy, magical biology, curse, and even swordsmanship.
For our main protagonist, Oliver Horn, and his fellow classmates, surviving the trials and tribulations of Kimberly Magic Academy as well as The Labyrinth, a mystical dungeon filled with dangerous monsters, until graduation seems nigh impossible.
With direct parallels to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry of the Harry Potter universe by J.K. Rowling, Reign of the Seven Spellblades is a spellbinding dark fantasy that will keep you both engaged and even quite possibly unsettled.
Next on our list is Season 2 of the comedic-but-controversial Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation! With Season 1 having aired in the Winter 2021 and having been met with mixed reviews, Studio Bind will once again continue the story of Rudeus Greyrat's reincarnation as a child prodigy into a world of magic and swords.
Not for the faint of heart, this series is set during medieval times and holds no punches when it comes to exploring the most deplorable themes of human nature. Mixing tragedy with comedy, this series meets all the requisites of a classic and ecchi Isekai anime for our edgiest fans.
For many of our older fans, it should come as no surprise that we highly recommend the 2023 remake of Rurouni Kenshin. Despite its controversial history, Rurouni Kenshin has received widespread praise since its release in 1996 for its balance between character development, comedy, and action-packed violence.
Following the journey of former assassin in his quest to make peace for his sins, Himura Kenshin, during the Japan Revolution, this anime explores themes of atonement, romance, and of course, katana-wielding thriller.
Fast forward to today, the remake is understandably hyped with expectations high that this beloved classic will once again meet the thrilling standards for entertainment it set 25 years ago.
Quite possibly one of the most popular new Shonen series to be released in the last decade, its only natural that Season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen is on our Must-Watch list– this time, following everyone’s favorite homeroom teacher and strongest sorcerer, Satoru Gojo, as a Jujutsu High School student himself.
Continuing the world-building from Season 1, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 provides some much-needed background context in the most classic, adrenaline-pumping way possible. With new powerful character introductions such as Toji Fushiguro and fast-paced battles, we are already on the edge of seat waiting for the next episodes.
For those of you familiar with the Fate universe, you may know it as a convoluted and even downright confusing series for first-time watchers. However, fear not! This summer, new simulcast Fate/strange Fake -Whispers of Dawn- is set in an alternate universe from the main series meaning that anyone can enjoy this epic tale of Mages (Masters) and their Heroic Spirits (Servants).
Boasting beautiful, vibrant artwork and intricate storylines, this franchise is a journey in its own right and Fate/strange Fake -Whispers of Dawn- is the perfect opportunity for new fans to dive into the series, sealing the final spot on our list!
That concludes our Action list for this Summer 2023 Season! We hope you have a blast exploring the series on this list with us and already can’t wait for the next Season’s release. Happy watching!
